Sammy delivered his first impression about the Zoom Ascension, a new budget model basketball shoe from Nike. The shoe features a basic mesh upper with high tensile stitching to add support to the breathable mesh. Sammy’s first thoughts on the upper are that it feels pretty nice on the foot, except for the heel where there is some pinching on the Achilles (commenters on Instagram also reported this issue). The midsole is full length Phylon with a Zoom unit in the forefoot, Sammy did say he could kind of feel the Zoom unit and that it had a nice bounce to it. The outsole features a solid rubber compound with a herringbone pattern that Sammy said was pretty hard (so may be good for outdoors) and performed well other than needing to wipe a lot (It may break in and perform better, so more details coming in the full performance review). Sammy’s overall first impression is that the Nike Zoom Ascension feels very cheap (it is a budget model, but sometimes you find a sleeper in the budget category) and that it wasn’t good but also wasn’t terrible. Stay tuned for the full performance review coming in a few weeks (if Sammy’s Achilles survives!), check out Sammy’s video below, and let us know your thoughts.
