The ninth installment in Kevin Durant’s signature shoe line by Nike is slated for a June 20th release date. The KD9 will feature advanced versions of Nike’s Flyknit and Zoom Air technologies. The low cut upper features an advanced Flyknit construction with a honeycomb structure designed for Kevin Durant’s lateral quickness and the multidirectional movements used in basketball. The upper looks to be strong and lightweight while also providing good lockdown. One of the coolest sounding new features of the KD9 is the Zoom Air midsole. The Zoom midsole is visible and tapered. In the heel the Zoom unit is 16 millimeters thick and tapers down to 10 millimeters in the forefoot. Nike says this is done in order to provide maximum impact protection while maximizing the bounciness of the Zoom Air unit. The Zoom unit is also articulated with an “anatomical flex groove” in the forefoot to maximize natural transitions and heel notches to add stability to lateral movements. One neat touch to the aesthetic design of the shoe is that the plastic tab on the heel with Kevin Durant’s logo is textured to look and feel like a DSLR camera, showcasing Durant’s interest in photography.
